A clamp is an element of equipment for climbers, speleologists, rescuers and rock climbers, used in rope techniques for lifting, belaying, guiding crossings, etc. traction or tension.
Standard clamps have a guaranteed strength in normal operation of at least 500 kg. In order not to damage the rope, working loads should not exceed 250 kg. The clamp works on dry and wet rope. During testing, the clamp must securely hold a round 8 mm rope. For self-belaying on vertical handrails, the clamp is attached to the rope with the handle down or in the direction of traction. The participant's self-belay or support aspiration is attached to the clamp, to the hole in its handle.
